Summary

In the final book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns series, an all-out war is brewing—one that will pit sister against sister and dead against undead。

After the grim confrontation with Queen Katharine, the rebellion lies in tatters。 Jules’s legion curse has been unbound, and it is up to Arsinoe to find a cure, even as the responsibility of stopping the ravaging mist lies heavy on her shoulders, and her shoulders alone。 Mirabella has disappeared。

Katharine’s reign remains intact—for now。 When Mirabella arrives, seemingly under a banner of truce, Katharine begins to yearn for the closeness that Mirabella and Arsinoe share。 But as the two circle each other, the dead queens hiss caution—Mirabella is not to be trusted。

In this conclusion to the Three Dark Crowns series, three sisters will rise to fight as the secrets of Fennbirn’s history are laid bare。 Allegiances will shift。 Bonds will be tested。 But the fate of the island lies in the hands of its queens。 It always has。

isn’t it a bad thing if i missed the third book in the series and i didn’t notice or care ? this fantasy series had so much potential but something was missing。 i didn’t care about the characters or the world and everyone annoyed me endlessly。

*3。5*Loved the ending, it was so action packed and I felt like almost all of the loose ends were tied up really well。 My main issue is the first ~2/3rds of the book really dragged for me, but the ending almost made up for it。 Also love all of the badass female characters。 I read a lot of fantasy and it isn’t often that you see so many women warriors (main characters, side characters, AND background characters)。 Props to the author for this。 ****** Slight spoiler*******One thing that I feel like *3。5*Loved the ending, it was so action packed and I felt like almost all of the loose ends were tied up really well。 My main issue is the first ~2/3rds of the book really dragged for me, but the ending almost made up for it。 Also love all of the badass female characters。 I read a lot of fantasy and it isn’t often that you see so many women warriors (main characters, side characters, AND background characters)。 Props to the author for this。 ****** Slight spoiler*******One thing that I feel like was never addressed was why the mist was attacking innocent people。 It didn’t make sense to me after we find out the mist is made up of past queens and the goddess。 What would be their motivation to kill people?? Finally, I finished the last book of the Three Dark Crown series written by Kendare Blake。 Now, this fantasy fiction was really interesting。 Basically, it was about triplet queen sisters who each possessed different kinds of powers。 One was an elemental, one was a poisoner, and the other, a naturalist。 Each one of them was assigned to different houses based on their powers。 They were tasked to hone these powers to prepare for the Ascension Year。 It was a year wherein they will fight one another Finally, I finished the last book of the Three Dark Crown series written by Kendare Blake。 Now, this fantasy fiction was really interesting。 Basically, it was about triplet queen sisters who each possessed different kinds of powers。 One was an elemental, one was a poisoner, and the other, a naturalist。 Each one of them was assigned to different houses based on their powers。 They were tasked to hone these powers to prepare for the Ascension Year。 It was a year wherein they will fight one another for the crown。 This has been already a tradition in Fennbirn Island。 Thus, the bonds of the sisters were overlooked, for killing one another was a tradition and the Goddess’s will。 Thus, it should not be disobeyed regardless of the situation。 However, this year was not like the previous years。 As the mist began to rise over the island, tensions between the Legion Queen and the Undead Queen intensified。 The people of Fenbrin were afraid of what the island will be like in months’ time。 Threats of the mist began to spread like wildfire。 Devouring the fleshes of people whom it will encounter。 Merchant, queens guard, priestess, are no match for the mist。 Regardless of what you are or who you are, it will devour you when in contact。 What was once the protector of the island from the mainlanders became their greatest adversary。 On the other hand, the exiled queens, Mirabella and Arsinoe, decided to return to the island to seek answers to the dreams Arsinoe has been seeing。 However, they did not expect the rebellion neither did they expect that they will be involved。 Little did they know that their involvement will resolve the threat the mist had imposed but at what cost? Was it really worth it?To be honest, I have no expectations reading the last book because I know that having a strong ending can really be a challenge。 However, this book did not disappoint。 What I love about these series is how they empower women characters。 They were not portrayed as weaklings, but rather independent women who are capable of deciding their own actions。 I also love the fact that they did not portray the women as damsels in distress, but the opposite。 As Emilia said, “It is to be expected, I suppose。 Always like a boy, to be in need of protection。” I don’t know but somehow this line empowers me。 This is because we live in a society wherein girls are expected to be protected by boys, but this just shows that it can work both ways。 On the other hand, the book also somehow highlighted the bond among the sisters。 Even though they were separated and made to kill one another。 They still cannot ignore the fact that they are sisters。 That even a little, there is love among them。 However, they are no longer little girls anymore。 Thus, they are things they need to sacrifice to protect the people surrounding them。 “Little sister, do not let them have me。” This line really broke my heart because it was Mirabella’s last request to Katherine。 In order for the undead queens to not use Mirabella as a vessel, Katharine has to kill her even though it is against her will。 The island may seem that they are like the previous queens born to rip one another’s hearts to claim the heart。 They will never know the pain that these queens need to endure killing their own sister for the sake of the whole island。Overall, it was a decent book to end the series。 However, I must say there were more questions formulated than answered。 For example, the reason behind the mist was not explained, the return of the Blue Queen was not tackled thoroughly, and Pietyr’s recovery did not really help in the progression of the plot。 Despite these faults, I was able to overlook them because I was truly happy with the journey I had with this book。 The characters are well written and the beliefs they have will really have an impression on you。 It was pretty remarkable。 Thus, I recommend reading this book since it will provide closure to the whole series。 。。。more

What an epic end to an amazing series。 Seriously, I sat down for five whole hours and took almost this entire book out。 A bit boring in the beginning (all that damn talking) but once it hit the action button, it did not stop。 Just a page turner after that。

This was a great conclusion to the Three Dark Crowns series。 It picks up right where Two Dark Reigns left off, with Mirabella off to try to help Katherine。 We watch as Katherine struggles with control over the spirits inside her。 Mirabella is determined to figure out what is wrong and help her and bring the sisters together again。 We get a stunning, yet sad ending。 I wasn't surprised by Katherine and Mirabella's fate, just sad。 I wish there had been more of a concrete ending for Arsinoe and Bill This was a great conclusion to the Three Dark Crowns series。 It picks up right where Two Dark Reigns left off, with Mirabella off to try to help Katherine。 We watch as Katherine struggles with control over the spirits inside her。 Mirabella is determined to figure out what is wrong and help her and bring the sisters together again。 We get a stunning, yet sad ending。 I wasn't surprised by Katherine and Mirabella's fate, just sad。 I wish there had been more of a concrete ending for Arsinoe and Billy since what we got was so open-ended。 While this series started out so slow, I wasn't sure if I would be able to continue on past the first book。 It picked up speed and delivered a thrilling ride and conclusion。 。。。more

An average ending for an average series。 Wasn’t my favorite but it kept my attention enough for me to read all 4 books。 I did, however, really appreciate the author’s choices in the ending of the book。 For a YA, I really wasn’t expecting what happened to happen with all of the characters at the end。

She becomes more of a figure beside Jules, assisting in the rebellion and desperate to understand her sisters’ motives - why Mirabella left them, left her, and why Katharine is so bloodthirsty。 I do feel better knowing that she isn’t as selfish, we see Braddock a couple of times but she doesn’t force her naturalist friends to summon him, instead she relies on her low magic - something she has an affinity for。 I did feel frustrated by Arsinoe’s ending but I also felt that after her character was redeemed slightly in this book, it was okay。The whole Legion Queen thing confuses me。 There’s a prophecy which the rebellion uses to gain fighters。 There’s a curse which makes Jules mad if unbound and a woman who pushes this all on Jules and seems desperate to have some sort of power。 I felt rather indifferent reading things from Jules’ perspective or reading the events from the rebels side。 I think the motives behind the fighting weren’t as thought out as they could’ve been。 They’re gearing up for war, lives will be lost, and yet it’s as if they don’t care about the implications, just the goal of dethroning Katharine。 I don’t know, I just wasn’t a fan。 It seems like all this had been building up and then by the end, it was just confusing, boring and felt rather like a let down。 I was so glad to see the symbols disappeared at the start of the chapters - it’s far less confusing! However, it also didn’t feel right to not have anything there at all after 3 books of the same symbols。 I think this should have been carried through - even if the symbols were different。 I found the plot to be rather meh a lot of the time。 It’s the forth book, events have been building up to this big moment and it just fell flat。 It felt rather disappointing if I’m honest。 Especially that ending。 After all that, that’s the ending we get? Certain characters suddenly change their minds on how they feel, shit happens and then everything is hunky-dory? The whole mood of it just felt completely off。 It makes me question my rating but because there were some moments I enjoyed and character developments that added a nice twist, I felt I couldn’t not give it 4 stars。 But it’s certainly a low 4 stars rounded up from a 3。5。 Overall, Five Dark Fates is a conclusion to a series that I personally feel missed the mark a little bit。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 。。。more

Was she just looking for the death of another elemental queen? And when the mist was banished once the dead queens were killed, how is Jules curse suddenly fine and no longer taking over her mind? The stories say that the legion cursed always lose their mind, is this ONLY after the mist was created? Because the first queen was a legion queen。 I wanted Arsinoe on the throne in the end even if she didn't want it, so I am a little disappointed that it was Jules in the end。 It was set up for Jules to rule but I am just not the biggest fan of the Jules as the Legion Queen and I really don't like Emilia, she rubs me the wrong way for some reason。In the end Billy decides to return to Fennbirn, but then why did he have to say goodbye at all? Why didn't he go back to the mainland and take care of Jane and his mother and then come back to Arsinoe? I am glad they got their happily ever after though。 I am also glad that Camden and Braddock lived, this makes me very happy。 I also like that we got more of Caragh, she is an interesting character。 I never thought Petyr would make it out of these books let alone be on the new Legion queens council so that was a surprise。 (hide spoiler)] Overall I think this was a fitting ending for this series and I am left feeling content that it wrapped up this way。 This series was a wild ride, I really enjoyed it and devoured these books。 It was something a little different for me, but I think I will definitely read more Kendare Blake books in the future, I really enjoy her writing style。 。。。more

Just a sort of incomplete mess of a finale。 Who are the five dark fates? What happened to the mist? Why even have a legion queen? What is this nonsense? Very disappointing as the series started so strong。

I enjoyed this! I was in a bit of a slump so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I think I could have。 I liked the ending, I think it wrapped everything up in a great way, though I think some things weren’t as explained as they should have been。 Things were just written off as fate, etc, so I wish those explanations had been more detailed。 Overall a really satisfying ending to a great series!

I think this novel offers a really great conclusion to this series。 Knowing that it was the last helped me to savor what was happening and really feel at peace with the characters as well as what their futures could hold。This is the first series I’ve ever read so having the chance to stay with the same characters (for better or for worse) through the span of four novels was interesting。 A little hard to get used to at first, but overall I think I loved getting to know each of the queens。 (Althou I think this novel offers a really great conclusion to this series。 Knowing that it was the last helped me to savor what was happening and really feel at peace with the characters as well as what their futures could hold。This is the first series I’ve ever read so having the chance to stay with the same characters (for better or for worse) through the span of four novels was interesting。 A little hard to get used to at first, but overall I think I loved getting to know each of the queens。 (Although Arsinoe forever)10/10 recommend this series!! 。。。more

I'm honestly really surprised at how much I loved this series。。 this was such a great conclusion。 I haven't read a battle like that in a while, and I was so emotional near the end that I almost cried! it was all wrapped up so well。 I still wish the writing made more use of contractions so I'd rate a 4。5 if I could, but that's just a personal irk and it didn't take away from the story at all。 I'm honestly really surprised at how much I loved this series。。 this was such a great conclusion。 I haven't read a battle like that in a while, and I was so emotional near the end that I almost cried! it was all wrapped up so well。 I still wish the writing made more use of contractions so I'd rate a 4。5 if I could, but that's just a personal irk and it didn't take away from the story at all。 。。。more
